The Best Tips For Oily Skin and Skin Care

The Best Tips For Oily Skin and Skin Care
Skin care for oily skin

Those of us who have oily skin know that there’s a fine line between ‘glow’ and ‘shine’. Whilst oily skin isn’t necessarily the bad boy of the bunch, an excess of the greasy stuff is less than appealing. So, if you want to know how to ditch the shine and get your glow back, read on to discover some Pedro-approved skin care hacks for oily skin.

Although we’ve covered skin care for oily skin on this blog in the past, I’ve seen a recent rise in the number of people reaching out to us who are at a loss on how to care for their out-of-balance oily skin. I therefore decided to update the info previously shared, creating what I like to call the Decalogue of Oily Skin!

1 – GENTLY DOES IT

Try not to unnecessary irritate your skin. The act of cleansing is already considered a skin stressor, so be extra kind to your epidermis by avoiding soaps and other ingredients which can lead to counterproductive results. I recommend using the Purifying Cleansing Beauty Cream to give back some of the skin’s key lipids and keep its hydrolipidic film in perfect shape. Whatever you use, make sure you thoroughly rinse off the product, otherwise it can block your hair follicles.

2 – GET THE RIGHT BACTERIA BALANCE

Consider including in your daily skin care routine for oily skin ingredients such as Epilobium extract as it controls sebum production and reduces the population of ‘bad’ bacteria like, Cutibacterium acnes. With this in mind, I suggest you check out the Ideal Rebalancing Level Serum.

3 – LOVE YOUR PORES

Give your pores some extra TLC by using the Clementine Cleansing Balm and leave it on your face for a few minutes, allowing it to penetrate deeper and dissolve all the compacted matter inside responsible for pore inflammation (cell debris, oxidised sebum, skincare and make up residue…).

4 – LESS IS MORE

Scale back your make up, as certain types products are known to clog pores.

5 – ADD GOOD OILS

Although it may seem counterproductive at first, using oils to treat oily skin can actually be very beneficial! Oily skin is characterised by having an excessive amount of oleic acid, so adding oils rich in linoleic acid to your skin will be a total game-changer. Intelligent Frontier Facial Oil will be your new BBF!

6 – A FAN OF ESSENTIAL OILS?

If you love using essential oils in your skin care routine, there are some wonderful ones that will help to balance out excess sebum production.  My favourites are: Sage, Lavender, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Cypress, and Tea Tree and what’s more, all of them are wildly available! However, remember to stick to the recommended doses and do a skin test first, as the same with any new product.

7 – A HOME FACIAL

Despite the vast array of fancy, sci-fi sounding skin care products on the market these days, nothing beats a traditional clay-based face mask. And, they’re even better with a twist, like with The London Mask.

8 – ALWAYS READ THE LABEL

Be suspicious of products formulated for oily skin. Sometimes you can get the opposite effect especially with ones formulate to give you a ‘quick fix’, like those containing alcohol, harsh surfactants or astringents such aniseed, hawthorn, etc.

9 – AVOID POLLUTED ENVIRONMENTS

Pollution particles adhere to the upper layers of the skin, making it produce more oil!

10 – DE-STRESS

Several studies have found links between high stress levels and acne breakouts. Stress can have a detrimental effect of your hormones, which in turn can affect sebum production leading to excess shine, blocked pores and dreaded pimples!
